WEBI've casted my own media with scrap lead from buildings. I just drilled holes in a piece of wood and poured the led into it. The media became round after a year of using but I milled an awefull a lot. You might want to look into brass tho. I've seen some brass balls on aliexpress. I might go for a mix of 12mm and 8mm

The price wasn't much of an issue and were definitely cheaper than my brass media. I can't remember specifics but I got like 200 1/2" weights for around 15 20 USD.

WEBJan 5, 2015 · I thought I would try it out as a ball mill, so I cast up a large batch of .575" (58 cal) hard round lead balls. The trouble is that 30 pounds of lead balls only fills it to about 1/3 full. I know that it is desirable to have the mill 1/2 full of media. Will I get acceptable efficiency with only 1/3 of the mill full of media?
WEBJun 14, 2021 · That's the only time you need to worry about sparks with milling. You say you have lead media. There's hard lead media and soft lead spheres. Hardened lead wears very slowly when milling complete BP. I wouldn't worry about potassium nitrate being gray from lead contamination, myself. That's assuming you are using it for BPtype formulas.
